"Every Single Parking Lot Along 128 is Empty"

According to a new report, Waltham hotel revenue dropped more than 70% in one year, from $89 million in 2019 to only $26 million in 2020.
With more than 2,000 rooms, Waltham trails only Boston and Cambridge in Bay State hotel accommodations.
But the coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact, with business travel still suspended and many working from home, leaving hotel rooms and restaurants empty.
One Waltham hotel industry insider said hundreds of hotel service workers have been laid off, and the outlook remains bleak for most of 2021.
“Every single parking lot along 128 is empty,” said the insider.
The revenue drop affects not only the hotels, but also Waltham tax revenue. The city collects a 6% hotel tax.
