Glendale Liquors Sign Has a New Look and Home

A classic oversize sign that stood over a now-defunct North Waltham liquor store has a new home at James P. Falzone Field.
Ward 3 city councilor George Darcy managed to save the sign back in 2015 after Glendale Liquors closed down at 1093 Lexington Street.
The sign measures 11 feet high and 19 feet wide.
Darcy initially hoped to re-erect it at the corner of Lexington and Trapelo Streets, minus the liquor reference.
The sign was stored on city property for a spell, then it was repaired and repainted by the city's Consolidated Public Works Department, according to Darcy.
The team effort was assisted by Waltham Auto Tow, which donated the use of a vehicle used in the installation at 880 Trapelo Road across from Our Lady's.
Darcy said a "Welcome to Waltham" message will eventually be added where the sign once read "Bottled Liquors."
