Going National

Published by Chris Wangler- March 27, 2021.

A few months ago we posted about Anya Packer (right), a Waltham native and former pro hockey player who has helped grow women’s professional hockey through her leadership of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) Players’ Association.
Anya is in town this week with her wife Madison Packer (left) to witness a special moment in women’s hockey.
For the first time ever, NBC Sports Network is carrying live national broadcasts of the NWHL Isobel Cup semis and final from Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, the Bruins’ practice facility.
A product of Waltham Youth Hockey, Anya and others have fought hard for higher salaries, greater exposure and top sponsors for the NWHL.
The Isobel Cup final, Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on NBCSN, will feature the two teams that were supposed to match up in the final last year before COVID intervened: the Boston Pride and the Minnesota Whitecaps.
Congrats to Anya and her Waltham family, including former Waltham Channel executive director and city councilor Bob Kelly, who sent us this pic.
