High CO Levels at WHS

Published by Chris Wangler- December 30, 2020.

High levels of carbon monoxide forced school administrators and a basketball team out of Waltham High School Wednesday morning.
Waltham Fire responded to a fire alarm around 10:00 a.m.
While investigating, firefighters recorded carbon monoxide (CO) levels of 200 ppm, according to news photographer Peter Lobo. A reading of 35 ppm is considered high.
The entire high school was inspected. After about an hour, firefighters let administrators and a boys’ basketball team back into the building. The team was practicing at the time of the alarm.
Lobo said the cause of the elevated levels was a possible issue with one of the boilers.
There were no reported injuries, and the incident remains under investigation.
