Keeping The Flame Lit

In spite of imposing barriers to success, The Green Torch isn’t giving up on its dream of a cannabis microbusiness.
Five Waltham small businessmen want to cultivate craft cannabis on the South Side and sell it to licensed cannabis businesses in the Commonwealth.
Viondy Merisma, Kelvin Colindres and Gordon Doristin are all WHS Class of 2009. The other partners, Kevin Young and Matthew Dyer, are also from Waltham.
Their company, The Green Torch, would grow organic cannabis at 104 Pine Street and deliver it to licensed cannabis businesses.
The proposed microbusiness is not a dispensary and there would be no retail sales at the location.
Company spokesman Viondy Merisma (far right in photo) is confident that the Waltham community will support a sustainable business run by persons of color who grew up here.
That said, he knows the approval process is an uphill climb, with many regulatory hurdles to clear. But he has shown up to council meetings and continues to advocate.
“We want to show the mayor that the residents support this,” Viondy said.
To notify the community of its plans, The Green Torch will host a community Zoom meeting at the end of the month. There’s also a petition going. Only those 21 and older can participate.
