After 39 Years, Il Capriccio Closes

A beloved Italian restaurant at 888 Main Street will not re-open after closing due to the coronavirus.

Waltham resident Marie Daly confirmed the news Friday in a Facebook post, publishing an email she received from Richie Barron, the longtime owner and executive chef of Il Capriccio Ristorante e Bar.

“We have been operating as tenants at will for several years, and with the emergence of COVID, it essentially ended our lease,” Barron said. “In addition, the landlord has expressed other plans for the space.”

He added that “Il Capriccio just may emerge in another form in another location sometime in the future, and we will update you when we know more about any plans.”

Having spent 46 years in the kitchen, the respected Northern Italian chef said it was time to step away. Barron thanked his patrons for all their loyalty.

“We have loved every minute of serving you and in many cases, multiple generations of your families. We have been incredibly touched by the hundreds of emails that you have sent our way sharing the kindest of sentiments,” he said.
