A large police and tactical presence gathered near Prospect and Russell Streets.

Around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to 38 Prospect Street following a report of a man with a knife.

Waltham Police negotiated with him, then summoned NEMLEC to assist.

After a standoff lasting an hour and a half, the suspect surrendered, according to news photographer Peter Lobo.

No one was hurt, but the man was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

During the standoff, a parking lot at Prospect and Russell Streets was filled with NEMLEC vehicles and officers in tactical gear.

The incident remains under investigation.
