After years of delays, the Waltham section of Wayside Rail Trail is underway.
And state officials announced that Waltham would receive half a million dollars to restore the Linden Street Bridge as part of the $9.3 million project.
This week, workers removed overgrown vegetation and railroad ties and rails north of Main Street from 1265 Main to Prospect Hill Road.
The 2.74 mile project is a multi-use trail that will run from 1265 Main to Beaver Street. A section near 1265 Main has already been completed.
A rep for the contractor, Stow-based E.T. & L. Corp., said the estimated completion date is fall 2023.
The state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will maintain the trail once it is completed.
