Courier Truck Brings Down Wires, Knocks out Power

Published by Chris Wangler- May 18, 2021.

A FedEx truck took down power lines on Rumford Ave. at the Newton line Tuesday morning around 8:45 a.m.
Fire departments from both Waltham and Newton responded as the utility poles were on fire, according to news photographer Peter Lobo.
The downed wires caused power outages on Waltham’s South Side and in parts of Newton. Utility crews were on scene by 9:15 a.m.
As repairs got underway, commuters attempting to leave the Island area were stalled because the alternate route, the Woerd Avenue Bridge, is still under construction.
The crash remains under investigation.
