Facing OUI and hit-and-run charges, Ward 3 city councilor George Darcy has hired James Milligan to defend him.

Milligan’s website describes him as “one of just a few lawyers in Massachusetts who is board certified in drunk driving defense as recognized by the American Bar Association.”

The website also says the Hanover-based attorney “successfully defends approximately 8 out of 10 cases.”

Authorities allege Darcy struck a vehicle on Main Street shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 16, and fled the scene.

The hit-and-run victim pursued and cornered Darcy in North Waltham until Waltham Police arrived and arrested him for operating under the influence, according to court documents.

A plea of not guilty was entered on Darcy’s behalf at his arraignment in Waltham District Court. At the time he had not hired counsel.

Darcy’s second hearing, originally set for Tuesday, December 6, has been moved to Wednesday, January 18.

A court document explains the delay, noting that “Counsel just retained and need booking video to determine path of case.”

Milligan could not be reached for comment on Darcy’s case.
