Dr. Marisa Mendonsa, currently the Deputy Superintendent of Pittsfield Public Schools in Western Mass, is set to become Waltham’s new superintendent.

On March 20, the Waltham School Committee announced an agreement with Mendonsa for a three-year contract at $235,000 per year, starting on July 1, 2024.

“I am incredibly honored to serve as the next superintendent of schools and thank the school committee for their confidence in my leadership,” Mendonsa said in a statement.

“I am excited to get to know the community of Waltham better and learn all that Waltham has to offer from our students, staff, caregivers and community members. There is great work ahead and I can't wait to get started! GO HAWKS!” she said.

The school committee announced intentions to offer Mendonsa a contract back in late December. A long negotiation process followed.

George Frost will continue to serve as interim superintendent until she starts.
