WHS Player Recognized for Outstanding Sportsmanship

March 22, 2023
Reagan MacPherson, a senior captain on the Waltham High School girls varsity hockey team, had quite a day Tuesday.
After being recognized for her sportsmanship, the defender traveled to TD Garden to participate in activities for the Boston Bruins' 2023 Women in Sports Night.
Reagan was photographed during team walk-ins with players, including center Patrice Bergeron, one of the game’s most sportsmanlike players. (She is in the red jersey in the photos.)
The 2023 Sportsmanship Awards are issued by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Boston Bruins.
Reagan was among 11 Massachusetts female high school hockey players recognized “for best exemplifying a commitment to sportsmanship throughout the season.”
The criteria include respect for the rules and opponents, as well as on- and off-ice behavior.
“A true competitor on the ice, Reagan always displays great sportsmanship,” said her coach CJ Giardino in a press release. “She respects her teammates, her coaches, her opponents, her officials and the game.”
“Off the ice, Reagan is a leader both for her team and the community. A major accomplishment of Reagan’s has been her Toys For Tots Toy Drive during Christmastime,” coach Giardino said.
In addition to appearing in photos Tuesday night with Bergeron, Charlie Coyle [above] and Brad Marchand, Reagan was also spotted entering the Bruins team offices with players Dimitri Orlov and Trent Frederic.
