Waltham was one of 23 Bay State communities to receive emergency alerts via cell phone on Monday afternoon after 5:00 p.m.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) issued the alerts to cell phones in communities deemed high risk for coronavirus.
The alert described COVID19 as “a serious threat in Waltham” and advised residents to wear masks, not share food or utensils, maintain social distancing and stop gatherings.
Last Thursday, Waltham retained its red status based on state public health data, indicating high risk for coronavirus.
