Superintendent Moved by Contract Extension to 2031
Another contract will keep Waltham schools superintendent Marisa Mendonsa in the district for five more years.
The superintendent, who started in July 2024, was working under a three-year contract that would have ended in June 2027.
Negotiations cut short her original contract by a year to allow for a 5-year extension, starting in July 2026 and ending in June 2031.
Mendonsa was moved to tears before the school committee unanimously approved the contract extension last month [see video above].
“I love my job,” she said. “I love being here. I love my team. I love this committee. I love this city.”
The superintendent, who relocated to Waltham from Western Mass to take the job, said she was “grateful, humbled, honored to be leading this district.” Her tenure included a successful battle against breast cancer last year.
She told the school committee that she plans to stay beyond the contract extension. “My goal will be to retire here many more years ahead.”
Over the next three years, Mendonsa will receive a 2% increase on a $275,000 salary. She will also receive a one-time retention bonus.
