Is the long-overdue rail trail finally nearing construction? The City of Waltham is asking for bids for Waltham’s Wayside Trail Project. A pre-bid meeting will be held on January 5.

Contractors can submit bids to build out the 4.2 mile Waltham section from Weston to the Belmont border.

The city’s bid documents specify a completion timeline “on or before June 30, 2023.”

One small section of the trail near 1265 Main has already been completed. The remaining parts have already been designed, in part with community input.

The Waltham section of the Wayside Trail is part of the 104-mile Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT), which will run from Northampton all the way to Boston.
