Tree City USA

Published by Chris Wangler- May 6, 2021.

City of Waltham tree warden Kevin Thompson (right in photo) showed his tree love on Arbor Day last Friday, kissing a newly planted Chinese fringe tree.
Kevin and a crew of city workers planted the Tokyo Tower cultivar near the newly opened outdoor dining section at Moody and High.
Marigolds were also planted on Arbor Day by city workers.
The tree planting helped Waltham earn the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.
Last year, Thompson planted a tree nursery with 225 specimens at Arrigo Farm near the Watertown line, with plans to replant them all over the city.

Thompson’s goal is to pave streets and plant the trees at the same time. “We want to have fresh streets, sidewalks and trees in neighborhoods,” he said.
He also told us about Waltham’s tree setback planting program. Waltham residents can request that a shade tree be planted on their property at no cost.
