The second annual Waltham LGBTQ+ Pride Festival will take place on Saturday, June 4 on Waltham Common.

This year’s event, open to all ages, features music, performances, speakers, local orgs and activities for kids.

Among the Waltham speakers are WHS principal Brenda Peña, longtime Waltham activist Jennifer Rose and former Waltham city councilor Kristine Mackin, who introduced the city’s first Pride resolution and came out as bisexual on the council floor.

This year’s Pride event comes at a time of increased vigilance for the Waltham LGBTQ+ community.

Calls for greater awareness and inclusion have grown after two failed LGBTQ+ book bans in the WHS library and several suspicious incidents at the Little Queer Library on Trapelo Road.

“This year we knew Pride needed to be much more visible and include as much of our community as possible,” said Josh Kastorf, one of the organizers.
